Case Study: Leadership Capability Building at VicSuper
VicSuper (Now Aware Super), an Australian retirement savings fund, came to us looking for support with developing key leadership capabilities such as communicating to build trust, asking questions to uncover needs and opportunities, and looking for opportunities to support, to name a few.
Working to understanding their unique needs, as well as knowing the limitations of traditional leadership development approaches, we created an innovative approach that integrated spaced micro-learning with on-the-job practice and team reflection.
Specifically, we:
- had each team identify their top 3 capabilities they wanted to focus on on for the next quater
- created ’30-day challenges’ for each capability
- developed an automated series of short weekly emails to support each 30-day challenge, presenting key concepts and prompting on-the-job experiments and practice
- created a framework for facilitating reflection on practice within regular weekly team meetings
The teams involved reported significant gains in engagement and effectiveness as a result of the program.
Organizational Development Manager Gonzalo Cardozo shared, “Tom is a brilliant learning specialist. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him and will be working with him ongoing.”
